What to Expect!

Our Group:
Ours is a group of 14-23 dancers. We are not a performance group; we dance for the sheer pleasure of dancing. Everyone is welcome to join us at any point during the year. The dances we choose are done without a partner, in a closed or open circle formation.

What to Expect:
During the first half hour we dance a set of simple, easy-to-follow dances . This same set is repeated for several months so the group becomes very familiar with the dances over time.

During the second half hour we learn a new dance, or part of a new dance. Our instructor helps us learn a whole variety of new dances, and helps us remember previously taught dances. She calls out helpful cues when we are first learning.

We take a well-deserved break for 15-20 minutes, and then resume dancing to dancers’ requests, a mix of easy and more complex dances chosen from our extensive list of “old” dances. We always end the evening promptly at 9pm with the same quiet, candle-lit dance.

What to Bring:
Dress is casual and usually in layers. Shoes need to have support for turning, and must have a minimum of grip (not slippery) and some ability to slide (not running shoes). Bring your own water bottle.

Two Parties:
We hold two parties a year, one in December to celebrate Christmas, and one in June to celebrate the end of our dancing year. During the party, there is no teaching, just lots of dancing, conversation, laughter, and lots of potluck nibbles!
